Abstract
The agent-oriented (AO) methodology is an effective means for constructing complex systems. The concept of HDA (hierarchical development architecture) is proposed to solve the problem of "a variety in number, difficult to use" in AOSE. The paper presents supporting rules and fundamental elements in HDA for customizing a new AO methodology according to the given project. To exemplify its feasibility and effectiveness, the construction of C4I system is presented as a case study.
