  • Abstract
Forced call termination resulting from insufficient wireless resources is still a major problem for fast moving mobiles of a cellular system. Termination of the ongoing call without the will of the subscriber can be avoided by reserving channels in the next cell at the cost of increasing the call blocking rate in that cell. Therefore, the number of guard channels reserved for possible handoffs is an important parameter in system performance evaluation. We propose a method to estimate the set of candidate cells into which the mobile may move in the near future. New calls are admitted to the system by respecting the channels reserved in the candidate cells. We also propose a realistic mobility model to evaluate our call admission scheme
