Abstract :
An expression for field emission current density from a quantum wire of square cross-section experiencing Fowler-Nordheim tunneling is derived, where description of electron wave function relies on WKB approximation. In this communication, variations of current density with the applied electric field and wire dimension are computed, and compared with similar results obtained for a wire of circular cross-section.
