Abstract :
The author has written this short message to introduce himself as the new Editor-in-Chief (EiC) of the IEEE JOURNAL OF OCEANIC ENGINEERING. He took on the role last autumn, following the untimely death of his predecessor, Bill Carey. The new EiC gives an indication of his priorities and plans; as they become fleshed out, he will provide more details in subsequent editorial messages.
