  • Abstract
As cellular network architecture evolves, FPLMTS based on ATM transport network will accommodate small cells such as micro/pico cell. However, due to frequent handoffs on the small cells, the reconnection setup delay and the number of pre-established connections for the seamless handoff may be increased. To reduce the number of pre-established connections, this paper proposes an adaptive dynamic rerouting scheme which uses network resource effectively by minimizing the number of pre-established connections. Also it can minimize the handoff delay by using a few pre-established connection. In this scheme, to predict the handoff probability of the mobile terminal (MT), a new cell architecture is devised. We conclude by comparing the proposed rerouting scheme to the existing schemes in the literature
