  • Abstract
This paper investigates the operation and control of voltage source converters (VSC) interfacing renewable sources and connected through a communication network. A communication among the VSC would be extremely important for a reliable coordinated control of the micro sources. However, depending on the communication technology and communicated signal, the end to end delays and data loss varies. The operation and control of the VSC depends on the reference signal generations and if the reference signals are generated with a communicated measurement, the system performance depends on the limitation of the communication scheme. In this paper, it is aimed to form a set of guideline to choose the communication technologies and its associated communication metrics´ depending on the application of the VSCs. The communication schemes are implemented in QUALNET for data traffic analysis of the communicated signals. To validate the choice of communication technology, a closed loop simulation of power network (SIMULINK) and communication network (TRUETEVIE) is carried out in MATLAB platform.
