Abstract
A new algorithm for adaptive channel equalization is presented in this paper. The proposed algorithm consists of applying the Least Mean Fourth (LMF) algorithm and switching to the Least Mean Square (LMS) algorithm when the absolute value of error is greater than one. Using this algorithm yields a substantial improvement over the LMS algorithm. Performance of the proposed algorithm is compared with the LMS algorithm by means of computer simulation. The results show that the linear equalizers adapted by the proposed algorithm have lower estimation error and better bit error rate performance in comparison with the traditional LMS
