Abstract :
Preliminary experiments were performed to investigate the fundamental characteristics of the KrF and CO lasers, and the laser produced plasmas for pulsed ion beam production. (1) The mode patterns of a discharge-pumped KrF and CO lasers were measured recently to prepare the future target irradiation. (2) A lithium target was irradiated by a small e-beam pumped KrF laser and the exhausted plasma were measured. (3) A larger KrF laser of the same kind was operated and the output characteristics were observed.
