INSITE(R) continuous monitoring system-information not data

This paper discusses INSITE, the Doble Engineering Company´s on-line continuous diagnostic monitoring system. It also reviews the INSITE platform and gives some examples of how the rule based expert system performs analysis. The INSITE substation apparatus monitoring system consists of sensors, data acquisition units, ModBus Plus^TM local area network communications, the INSITE controller (substation computer), PC-based user interface program, expert system analysis programme and databases. INSITE provides continuous condition monitoring and diagnostics of substation apparatus. It sends prioritised maintenance ALERTs indicating the severity and probable cause of incipient problems
