  • Abstract
A test stand was developed to generate energy loss and permeability data under square-pulse magnetic excitation for several ferri- and ferromagnetic materials. The test stand consists of a coaxial transmission line pulse-charged to 100 kV that is discharged into a magnetic core load. The magnetization rates achieved in the experiments extend from 5 to 50 T/μs, corresponding to saturation times from 40 to 100 ns. The development of the test stand will be discussed, and test results for ferrite CN20, Metglas 2605CO, and the nanocrystalline alloy Finemet FT-1HS will be presented. In order to verify the accuracy of the data, the test results for Finemet FT-1HS will be compared with those of previous experiments in a similar parameter space.
