Abstract
In this paper a static synchronous series compensator (SSSC) is used to improve the small signal stability of a power system. A 48-step voltage source inverter (VSI) is used for the implementation of SSSC. The PI controller is used to regulate the dc link voltage of VSI. The mathematical model is derived for complete power system including PI and damping controller. The PI and damping controller parameters are selected through eigenvalue analysis. The results obtained from eigenvalue analysis are validated through nonlinear digital simulation using PSCAD/EMTDC.
