Abstract :
Since the middle of the seventies, a number of research projects have been developing computer assisted methods for work in forensic document examination. Special programs have been developed and commercial software has been adapted to the practical requirements of this work as well. The paper discusses a number of European image processing systems and outlines target areas, potentials and limits of these systems. Case studies are presented which demonstrate the efficiency of the technical procedures involved. Handwriting identification and typewriting identification are two of the applications discussed
