A proposal of efficient interactive recognition system for understanding of map drawings

Abstract :
Fully automated understanding of engineering drawing is still extremely difficult. In practice, tremendous efforts have to be spent on manual operations on the results generated by automatic understanding systems. To solve this bottleneck we have proposed an interactive recognition system which employs strictly conditioned production rules to automatically process objects with little noise and distortion, and for the rest, employs more flexible rules to propose possible recognition results. The final judgement is left for operator to make. To overcome its problems, in this paper, we propose a new method for generating proposal of recognition results. The proposed method makes use of past interface results to generate proposals. We also propose a mechanism for planning the order in which graphical objects are presented to operator for judgement, to maintain the success rate of proposal at a steady rise. Experimental results show that the proposed new system is very effective. The correct rate of recognition proposals is improved from 70% to 90%. Since the proposed method only makes use of processed examples, it is also application independent
