Abstract :
The high phase machine has gained popularity because it can be used in a number of applications such as electric ship propulsion, traction and also some investigation is going on for a more-electric aircraft concept, because of their fault tolerance facilities which enables disturbance-free mode of operation in case of loss of one or more phases. In this paper an attempt is made to provide a detailed analysis on the different performance variables of a three phase and different high phase induction motor in the SIMULINK environment. There are two types of configuration possible. The first configuration is made by adding externally a number of identical windings in the already existing three phase induction motor and the second configuration in which the same machine is wound for different phase numbers taken care of the relevant changes in the motor. Simulations for first case has been carried out in this paper and the results from the simulations are showing that high phases (3, 5, 7) are having better performance characteristics such as speed, torque, current etc. as compare to three-phase counterpart machine.
