Abstract :
This paper describes a two-step filter bank design method that (1) parameterizes, for a given lowpass analysis filter of order N, all lowpass synthesis filters of order M that will form 2-channel, linear-phase, perfect reconstruction QMF filter banks in terms of a ´free´ parameter vector in the null-space of a matrix characterized by the impulse response of the given lowpass analysis filter; and (2) utilizes this parameter vector to shape up the frequency response of the lowpass synthesis filter using a quadratic programming technique.
