Abstract
In this paper, a general-purpose integrated battery energy module, which is a basic building block incorporating battery, power devices, and control circuitry into a standardized functional block. The proposed energy module concept, which provides a wide versatility, from a residential or personal application in the range of a few kW power rating, to a transmission/distribution application ranged into a few GW rating, shows several advantages including the reduction of engineering effort, design testing, onsite installation, and maintenance work, due to high standardization. Since the concept is very applicable to massive production, it expects to lead to lower costs and improved performances. Introducing the configuration of the proposed integrated battery energy module, the paper describes the detail operation, consideration, and design examples.
