Abstract :
In port container terminals, yard cranes and trucks are the commonly used for handling containers in the landside. This paper studies the problem of scheduling trucks and yard cranes in the landside operations of a container terminal to optimize the terminal performance. As the scheduling problem is very complicated, a fuzzy heuristic is proposed for solving the problem. The effectiveness of the fuzzy heuristic is evaluated by comparing its performance with that of some popular scheduling rules using simulation. The simulation results show that the fuzzy heuristic outperforms the scheduling rules.
