Abstract :
High economic growth in Shandong has had huge implications for great water consumption and produced significant water pollutants. Saving index is introduced to analyze the evolution of the performance of water consumption, waste water discharges, COD (Chemical Oxygen Demand) and ammonia nitrogen emissions in Shandong over the past 12 years. The change of saving indexes represents Shandong´s water efficiency, waste water control and COD & ammonia nitrogen reduction are better than China average level after 2006. It still needs to be attention that the massive water consumption and huge amounts of water pollutants have caused much environmental problems. In order to realize sustainable utilization of water resource, Shandong has to achieve a better technological progress, optimized industrial structure and improved water efficiency and water pollution control measures.
