Abstract
The paper discusses the problem of optimization of complex systems that are described by a fuzzy model. Conventional optimization philosophy used in nonlinear programming is replaced by an efficient procedure that is in the spirit of the theory of approximate reasoning. Our approach is based on the fact that the focal points of the rules approximate the extrema of the nonlinear mapping which is associated with a fuzzy model. As a result we obtain a simple algorithm for calculation of the “approximate” extrema of a fuzzy model. We also demonstrate how these “approximate” extrema can be used in the calculation of the true extrema of a fuzzy model
