Abstract :
The design and manufacturing of data cables to be used in high performance applications presents a number of challenges as the application speeds increase. Previous work by these authors has shown the potentially large impact of differential delay skew in the generation of common mode noise and therefore electromagnetic interference. This paper examines various methods for measuring the shielding effectiveness of such cables and discussing practical considerations involved in building and characterizing a reverberation chamber for such measurements. The theoretical background behind chamber design is not covered here for lack of space; please see the references for those details.
