Abstract :
This paper proposes an analysis of the overall numerical errors affecting the implementation of the finite element (FE) method in the time domain (TD). Specific reference is made to simple testing cases allowing a systematic check against analytical reference solutions. In particular, results obtained by using two different kinds of basis functions widely employed in frequency domain FE formulations are compared.
