Abstract
We discuss and model the interference in downlink CDMA channels and consider the advantages of applying multiuser detection techniques in the mobile stations. We show that if the increased computational complexity is tolerable such advanced receiver techniques are likely to increase the capacity of the downlink channels considerably, especially when applied together with more accurate closed loop power control. Simulation results are presented assuming that orthogonal codes are used in each base station
