Abstract :
The general requirements for the third-generation mobile communication system are to be markedly superior to second-generation systems in terms of services that can be provided and system economy. The wideband-CDMA (W-CDMA) system is a strong candidate for the radio access of the third-generation system. We describe a design approach that makes the most of the merits of W-CDMA, propose radio transmission and system control techniques, and present a performance evaluation of the individual techniques
