Abstract :
Complexity poses an important challenge in modern product design, especially due to linkages between various aspects, e.g. components, functions or organizations. Several methods consider the analysis and optimization of system linkages; however most of them are limited to single aspects. A new approach represents the systematic enhancement of the matrix-based approach of the Design Structure Matrix and integrates various aspects into the Multiple-Domain Matrix. The corresponding method of indirect dependency deduction then allows for deriving specific system views that can be further analyzed and optimized by available methods. The presented approach is embedded into a management approach that, at the one hand, provides the framework for the consideration of multiple aspects; on the other hand, established methods can be applied for analysis and optimization.
