Abstract
A transimpedance amplifier (TIA) designed in a digital 0.18 μm CMOS technology is presented. The photodetection of the 1.3 μm light is done by a ternary PIN photodiode. The TIA is performed as a folded cascode stage with a transimpedance of 1.6 kΩ in the most sensitive case. A sensitivity of -28 dBm for 622 Mb/s at a bit error rate (BER) of 10-11 and -22 dBm for 1.25 Gb/s at a BER of 10-10 is achieved.
