Abstract :
An experimental evaluation of two different procedures for measuring the cure of enamelled wires is presented. The cure of an enamelled wire can be indirectly evaluated by the measurement of the dissipation factor. The enamelled wire is immersed in a molten metal bath, and the dissipation factor of the insulating layer is measured between the conductor and the bath (MAG bridge device). The dissipation factor varies with the temperature. Two procedures were evaluated using samples of class H (180°C) PEI enamelled wires under different cure conditions. One procedure measures the value of the dissipation factor for one fixed temperature, while the second procedure is based on the curve of the dissipation factor. The cure is related to the value of the temperature corresponding to the inflection point on this curve. Both procedures were found to be suitable for indirect cross-linking level evaluation
