Abstract :
Issues formerly not included in curricula are becoming part of a new paradigm which emphasizes communication skills, participation skills, and group decision-making. In the Spring 1993 semester at Memphis State University incorporation of this new paradigm was attempted by utilizing a team-teaching approach in a senior level capstone course which provided the students with a real-world practical problem. The project entailed the design and construction of a security system for a computer laboratory which primarily included access to the room via the use of a student, teacher, maintenance, or security identification card and a card-reader, assignment and monitoring of the computers in the room, log generation, equipment security, alarms, expansion capability, utility functions, and an operating manual
