Abstract :
This work is concerned with the characterisation of materials in down-hole pipelines using ultrasonic nondestructive testing (NDT) methods. Two different approaches for down-hole material identification have been examined. The first can be applied when the reflection from the oil/scale interface is visible but signals from scale/pipe-wall interface are not seen due to attenuation. The second is an improvement on the first approach when the reflected echo from the scale/pipe-wall is also visible
