Abstract :
The forces that drive the evolution of packaging are largely those that drive the rapid evolution of the power semiconductor themselves, i.e. higher efficiency, smaller size, the ability to operate reliably in hostile environments and, above all, lower cost. This paper intends to examine one half of the power semiconductor story in looking at how power semiconductor packaging has evolved by examining a brief history before taking a look at current trends and possible future developments
