Abstract :
We present an algorithm for maximizing the lifetime of broadcasting over a virtual backbone in wireless ad hoc networks. The algorithm is fully distributed in performing backbone update, and its message overhead is insensitive to the update interval. Moreover, our algorithm design guarantees backbone connectivity throughout the update process. We present simulation studies to demonstrate that the algorithm can significantly prolong lifetime
