  • Abstract
The new telephony transport technologies, IP and/or ATM, which are being brought closer to the end user, require a new interface to the service layer. Here, the solution is to reuse the IN to TINA migration approach. In this new architecture, media gateway controllers should be seen as the IP technology adaptation unit, which interface a call to the TINA session service. If the core service and its associated TINA interfaces have been correctly designed, the same service can be accessed from IN, from the VoIP gateways, with all the TINA facilities. The provision of these core services to the WWW is straightforward, as the Web offers a TINA-like configuration, i.e., direct interface between the end-user and the retailer. In conclusion, the network technology-dedicated service platforms could be split into a core service and adaptation modules to IN and Internet, in order to provide a unified service layer
