Abstract :
Data from laboratory studies are presented to show that organic solvent acetone exhibited a stimulatory effect on the growth of both ubiquitous nitrogen-fixing cyanobacteria, Anabaena azotica and Anabaena flos-aquae at lower concentrations (0.001~1%) and inhibitory effect at a higher concentration (10%). The similar effect was also observed for acetone on photosynthetic functions which may be suggested that use of the growth and photosynthetic pigments of the both cyanobacteria as sensitive indicator index of toxicity to microorganism in environment.
