Abstract :
In the wireless network, Transmission Control protocol (TCP) suffers from serious performance degradation during hard vertical handoff. When handoff occurs between different access networks such as from Wireless Fidelity (WiFi) to Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX) it results in packet losses and unused connection time. Management Information Base (MAC MIB) based loss recovery scheme is used to differentiate the packet losses. The problem of unused connection time is solved by means of adapting the algorithm that can effectively improve TCP performance in the presence of hard vertical handoff. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme improves TCP performance during hard vertical handoff compared with NewReno.
