Abstract :
For several reasons, such as redundancy and independence of ISP, a end-site would connect to more than one ISP. The major challenge of multihoming is to maintain connection survivability when network outage happens and the multihomed site looses physical connection to one of the ISPs. Several solutions had been studied by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) multi6 working group (WG), however most of them rely on adding new components, either network devices or protocols, into the Internet. In this paper, three solutions based on existing protocols, Mobile IPv6 (MIPv6) and Network Mobility Basic Support (NEMO), are proposed. They are not only able to achieve connection survivability, but also backward compatibility. In particular, even corresponding hosts are not aware of MIPv6and NEMO, they still can connect to multihomed hosts when outage happens. Performance of these solutions is valuated to examine their effectiveness.
