Title :
Modelling of optical fibre network physical layer performance using a PC/Macintosh based software simulation tool
Author_Institution :

Abstract :
A methodology for modelling the physical layer performance of optical fibre networks is described. The modelling framework is sufficiently versatile to allow detailed bit error rate (BER) prediction, quick power budget calculations, production of wavelength responses and the creation of detailed design graphs of, for example, amplified systems. The simulation tool is designed to run on both PC and Macintosh platforms to allow widespread dissemination and use
