Abstract :
A new approach to the identification of 2-D shapes is proposed. The prototype object is described by a family of shapes. These new shapes are created by occluding the object of interest by concentric circles/circular rings located in the object´s centre of area. The invariant descriptors of such shapes are functions depending on the size of occluding figures. Using these functions it is possible to create from a single descriptor any number of shape descriptors, so that the identification algorithms can be more reliable, robust and flexible
