Abstract :
In wireless ad hoc networks such as Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks (VANET), limited coverage of WiFi and high mobility of the nodes generate frequent topology changes. Therefore Quality of Service (QoS) support becomes an essential aspect. In this work we have identified the need for QoS improvement in VANETs. Survey of related work depicts that, an efficient routing strategy plays a crucial role, to improve the QoS parameters. To address the QoS limitations in VANETS, routing protocol is optimized by applying a meta heuristic algorithm - Ant Colony Optimization (ACO). Network Simulator (NS2) has been used to carry out the experiment where Ad-hoc On-demand Distance Vector Routing (AODV) is optimized. Multimedia traffic is being transferred, which promises more realistic results. Meta heuristic algorithm can improve upon the QoS parameters, such as end to end delay in routing protocol, which is comparable to well known existing multipath routing protocols.
