Abstract :
An optimistic view of science and math education is presented. The authors believe that higher education- specifically engineering colleges -and engineers in general can and do benefit from working with K-12 educators, who in turn can benefit from interaction with both universities and business. They describe the work of a national organization, the Triangle Coalition, founded to promote cooperative math and science efforts; a particular engineering college, the University of Wisconsin-Madison; and an individual teacher, Bill Weber of Rufus King High School in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, who has received recognition for incorporating engineering concepts and his own engineering-related work experience into his award-winning teaching of physics
