Abstract :
In this paper, we discuss the co-existence of DS-CDMA and TDMA systems where both systems share the same frequency band to improve the spectral efficiency. We evaluate the capacity of a DS-CDMA/(frequency-multiplexed) TDMA frequency sharing system, and show that the system can provide a greater capacity than a single multiple access scheme-based system such as DS-CDMA or TDMA, when we employ an active narrowband interference rejection technique for the TDMA signals. The rejection of the narrowband TDMA signals can significantly improve the bit error rate performance of the CDMA system and total capacity of co-existence
