Abstract :
In this paper we propose and analyze a novel multiple access scheme based on the combination of the TDMA and CDMA protocols. This hybrid protocol is capable of integrating different types of traffic and complies with the requirements of next-generation systems, such as the Universal Mobile Telecommunication System (UMTS). The performance of both the CDMA and the hybrid TDMA/CDMA protocol is evaluated in terms of throughput, delay and spectrum efficiency using a Markovian model of the protocol and computer simulation
