Abstract :
Recent years have seen increased demands on avionics systems to provide enhanced symbolic data processing functions, particularly in the emerging areas of real-time, onboard, tactical and mission assistance. Attempting to meet the increased processing that such applications require simply by “killing the problem with MIPS” in a classical avionics architecture is inefficient, fragile and costly. The RTAIS program represents an elegant approach to solving this mismatch by coupling a deep understanding of the kinds of computation needed with both highly parallel hardware, an expanded programming paradigm, and a fully Ada-based programming environment
