Abstract
Underlay ultra wideband (UWB) systems have to be able to detect the presence of primary users operating in the same band for detect-and-avoid (DAA) operation. In this paper, the interference sensing capabilities of UWB impulse radios (UWB-IRs) are analyzed in the presence of multiple WiMAX systems. For that, the probabilities of false alarm and detection, and the percentages of time the UWB-IRs operate usefully and harmfully (causing interference to primary systems) are studied for different scenarios. The results presented in this paper are important for implementation of UWB-IR DAA.
