Abstract :
UWB signal band is very large and overlaps the spectra of existing systems. To comply with coexistence issues, regulatory bodies imposed restriction on UWB spectrum. In Europe the Electronic Communications Committee (ECC TG3) is concentrating its effort on WiMAX subscriber station (SS) protection, proposing the adoption of the Detect And Avoid procedures (DAA) for UWB. In this paper one DAA procedure is proposed to allow the reduction of the percentage of time the UWB interferes victim devices that operate in a time division duplexing (TDD) mode. The DAA performances are analyzed and their dependence on UWB transmit parameters (bit rate and power) is assessed. The DAA parameters can be properly tuned to reduce the (average) percentage of time the UWB interferes the victim systems well below the imposed regulatory limits. Interference reduction is obtained at the expense of UWB reduced performance.
