Abstract :
Tennessee State University´s College of Engineering and Technology has been awarded a research contract to establish a Center for Neural Engineering. The main objectives of this Center are to understand biologically motivated neural network systems through interdisciplinary research, to transition this research to real-world applications, and to enhance the educational opportunities for minorities and women through instruction and research experiences. The approach to achieving the above objectives of the Center includes a unique teaming arrangement among two highly reputed minority universities Tennessee State University and Meharry Medical College, a successfully innovative high-technology small business firm Accurate Automation Corporation, and Oak-Ridge National Laboratories. The teams from these organizations are pursuing fundamental research in the areas of: (1) information processing in the auditory cortex; (2) biological principles of acoustics; (3) efficient algorithm development; (4) acoustic neural processing application to fault diagnosis; and (5) applications to acoustic classification and robotics. Concentration core course descriptions are provided
