Abstract
An extension is presented of the maximum principle and of the transversality conditions for a class of optimal control problems for a system consisting of a parabolic equation and an ordinary differential equation in a Hilber space. In particular, the authors consider the time-optimal problem for some of these systems. As an application they study the optimal control of the diffusion of a class of epidemics
