Abstract :
McDonnell Douglas Aerospace (MDA) developed a Distributed Interactive Simulation (DIS) interface to existing simulation models for use on the DIS network. Several of the key features of the interface include the use of ports, which provide an application independent input/output capability to any object, a Standardized Multiple Array Translating and Integrating Environment (SMARTIE) task which translates the communications from one interface to another and the DIS hardware/software interface which sends/receives the network data. All of these components were integrated with the Joint Modeling and Simulation System (J-MASS) and used for a test which included other digital/interactive/manned simulation units
