Abstract :
When image data are transmitted in the mobile radio environment, bit errors will usually cause block missing or damaging. This paper deals with error concealment in block coded image transmission. It proposes a novel method for missing block reconstruction by the concept of self-embedding. Low quality image DCT coefficients are embedded into the original image with little distortion, and missing blocks can be reconstructed from those embedded bits. In order to obtain better image quality and less side information, an improved method is proposed by using both frequency domain interpolation and self-embedding for different blocks. Experiments show its good performance
