Abstract :
Magnetic anisotropy energy (MAE) is one of the fundamental properties important for most of magnetic materials applications. More specifically, the room temperature (RT) value of MAE as well as its temperature dependence is of critical importance for the development of permanent magnets (PMs), heat assisted magnetic recording (HAMR), magnetic random access memory (MRAM) and other spintronic applications. In this presentation we focus on the understanding temperature dependence of MAE not only in the context of mentioned applications but also as a way to reveal fundamental aspects of MAE mechanisms. We consider different classes of materials and types of anisotropies such as the anisotropic exchange type of MAE characteristic for L10 FePt and interface MAE (iMAE) that recently attracted much attention in FeCo/MgO, as well as higher order anisotropies and unusual temperature dependencies found in 3d metal - metalloid systems such as MnAl, MnBi and Fe16N2.
