Abstract
This paper proposes a new adaptive SNMPv6 for mobile devices. In order to improve the utilization of battery and wireless bandwidth and the reliability of trap delivery, the management functions for devices in wireless networks are implemented by combining the standard model with a new adaptive trap scheme. It classifies all trap messages into three categories and merging some non-emergent trap messages into a larger one. On the other hand, the very important trap message is sent and acknowledged to improve reliability. The combination of this two means can increase the efficiency and flexibility for trap packets transport from the agents to the SNMP NMS. The performance analysis shows that the enhanced scheme of the trap packets sending decrease the utilities of link bandwidth by 15% in a typical scenario without any large increasing delay of dealing. And the reliability of important trap delivery is increased with small add-on overhead
