Abstract
In recent decades, permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) drives have become more widely used for electric vehicles (EVs) due to simple structure, high efficiency and high power density. But the drawback with constant PM flux linkage also brings limitations in the drive application. Two ways can be used to solve the above-mentioned problem, one is that the armature current is utilized to weaken the flux linkage and the other is to use the hybrid excitation structure. There are many disadvantages in the first method, including increasing the copper loss and the risk of irreversible demagnetization. Hybrid excited topology combines the advantages of the PMSMs and wound field synchronous machines.
